From bath time to the vet: 9 care games for cats, dogs and unicorns
If you want pet care games, this list covers three kinds: home care games where you wash, feed and dress a cat or a dog, fantasy care games where a pet or a unicorn hatches from an egg, and salon and clinic games where you groom or treat animals that come to you. All nine are single-player, run in the browser and, according to their game pages, work on a phone with your finger. The idea is the same in every one: pick a tool, drag it onto the animal, and the next step unlocks when the current one is done.
What made the cut
Plenty of games have an animal on the cover, but in many of them the animal is just a costume for a runner or a puzzle. Those live in the animal games guide. Every game on this list meets four conditions:
- Looking after the animal is the game: there are washing, drying, brushing, feeding or treatment steps.
- Steps unlock in order, so even a young child can read from the screen what to do next.
- It plays with a mouse or a finger; no keyboard needed.
- Its game page marks it as phone-friendly.
The games are grouped by where the care happens: at home, next to an egg, or in a salon or clinic.
At home: a cat and a dog
The Cutest Squishy Pet
The simplest game on the list. Whichever tool is flashing is the one you pick and rub over the pet: soap foam, shower head, towel, brush. You cannot skip a step, so following the order is the whole game. When the pet is clean, a small football round lets you kick the ball into the goal for a reward. With no timer and no losing screen, The Cutest Squishy Pet is a good first stop for a preschooler.
Kitty Kate Caring Game
This one does not tell you what to do step by step; you have to work out what the cat needs right now. Dirty means tub and shampoo, wet means towel and then comb, hungry means the food bowl, thirsty means fresh water. Your best hint is the cat's face: if she looks unhappy, you picked the wrong item. Once the care is done, a dress-up screen opens with a collar, a bow and outfits. Kitty Kate suits a child who has finished the first game and wants a little more thinking.
My New Poodle Friend
Before the puppy arrives, you get its home ready. You pull the broken planks off an old kennel in the garden, hammer in nails, paint it with a brush, then drag in a rug, a cushion and a food bowl. After that comes the poodle itself: foam wash, rinse, dry and brush. Here, care covers the pet's home as well as the pet, which makes My New Poodle Friend a good pick for a longer play session.
Hatched from an egg: surprise pets and unicorns
In this group the animal does not arrive ready-made; you crack the egg first. Kids who do not have a real pet at home, or who love fantasy creatures, often want to start here.
Hatch Surprise Pets
You click the egg until it cracks, and only then do you see which baby animal you got. Food, water, bath and toy icons each carry a meter, and the pet gets grumpy as the meters drop. The trick is priority: fill the lowest meter first, because a hungry or sleepy pet ignores everything else. Finish its care and it grows, and a new egg appears; the goal is to collect every animal. Hatch Surprise Pets is the only game here built around tracking needs on meters.
Hatch Your Unicorn Idol
Click the egg a few times, and a baby unicorn pops out for you to wash and feed. Then you style it on the outfit, hair and accessory screen. Once your group is complete, the unicorns dance together on stage. There is no failing a level, but a baby you left half cared for gets grumpy on stage, so feed it before you dress it. Hatch Your Unicorn Idol is the one game that ends care with a music show.
Magical Unicorn Grooming World
This time it is a grown unicorn with a stable to match. First you click away rubbish and straw, then you wash with a hose, soap and brush. Taking off an old horseshoe and fitting a new one is a step no other game on this list has. The final part is free dress-up with mane colour, horn decoration, saddle and wings. For a child who loves styling, Magical Unicorn Grooming World is a natural next step, and there is more on the dress-up and makeup games page.
Salon and clinic: grooming, vet and dentist
In the last group you are not one animal's owner; you look after a line of animals that come to you. When one customer or patient leaves, the next one walks in, which gives these games more staying power.
Magic Pet Salon
You are the only staff member of a small beauty salon. You seat a waiting customer, wash with shower head and shampoo, dry with the hair dryer, shape the fur with scissors and comb, and paint the claws with a nail brush. Watch out: the scissors step will not finish on wet fur, so dry first. When painting, tap each paw separately. Magic Pet Salon has the most grooming steps of any game here.
Wild Animal Hospital Vet Doctor
No cats or dogs in this clinic: your patients are lions, elephants and monkeys. You pick one from the waiting room, put it on the exam table and drag cotton, spray, bandage and syringe to the marked spot. The order is fixed; a wound has to be cleaned before it can be bandaged. Talking about each animal's name and where it lives turns a session into a small nature chat. Similar treatment games are on the doctor games page, and the entry point for this group is Wild Animal Hospital.
Children Doctor Dentist 2
The patient sits down, opens wide, and the problem teeth are marked. The order never changes: cleaning, removing the decay, filling, polishing. It is the only game on the list where a wrong move has a cost: choose the wrong tool and the patient winces, and you repeat that step. Keep the tool right over the tooth, too, because touches at the edge do not count. That makes Children Doctor Dentist 2 the most demanding game of the group.
Stuck? Check these three things
Most of these games have no losing, but it is easy to get stuck. When a child says the game is broken, the problem is almost always one of these:
- The glowing or wobbling object: in the poodle, salon, vet and dentist games, that is how the game points to the next step.
- A patch left unfinished: foam left on the fur does not count as clean, and unrinsed soap will not unlock drying. Move the sponge or shower over the whole body.
- Small movements: one long drag with a brush, scissors or paint skips spots; work in short strokes.
Which one to start with
For a very young child, start with The Cutest Squishy Pet: the tool shows itself and there is no losing. For a cat lover who likes to think a little, Kitty Kate; for a longer sitting, My New Poodle Friend. A unicorn fan can begin with the hatching game and move on to the stable and styling one. A future vet goes to Wild Animal Hospital first, then the dentist game. Parents may also find the baby care games guide useful, as it sorts similar games by age. Every animal game on the site is in the animal category.
Frequently asked questions
Can you lose in these games?
They are built around care, not punishment. The Cutest Squishy Pet, Hatch Surprise Pets and both unicorn games have no losing or failure screen. In the surprise egg game, low meters only make the pet grumpy, and in the dentist game a wrong tool just makes you repeat a step.
Do they work on a phone?
Yes. All nine list touch controls on their game pages: you pick the tool with your finger and drag it onto the animal. No step needs a keyboard.
Do they teach real pet care?
They show a simplified version of a real routine: wash, rinse, dry, brush, feed. That order is a nice way to start a conversation at home, but for a real animal's needs, ask a vet.
