10 free cat games, from platform jumping to cat tower defense

· By

Anyone searching for cat games wants one thing on screen: a cat. What that cat actually does is what changes everything. In one game it hops between sliding platforms, in another it sneaks out of a grumpy stranger's house, in a third it runs a restaurant. We sorted 10 cat games by genre: timing, stealth, chaos, care, exploring, fishing and defense. All of them are single-player, all open in the browser, and nine of the ten work with a finger on a phone. If you already know what kind of game you like, jump straight to that section.

How we chose these 10

Variety came first. Most cat games online are either pet care or dress-up, so we allowed no more than two per genre to keep the list from turning into ten copies of the same thing. Second, controls: for each game we copied the keys and touch gestures from its own game page. Third, honesty: one game is hard to play on a phone, and we kept it in but said so plainly.

If you want animals beyond cats, our animal games guide covers pet care, fish games and animal puzzles. This page stays with cats only.

Timing games: jumping cats

Paws Up, two versions

We grouped these two on purpose, because both are versions of Paws Up. The cat jumps in place while platforms slide in from the left and right. You have one input: Space, left click, or a tap on the screen. Land dead center on a platform and you earn a bonus and a music note; miss once and you fall. There is no finish line, only your best height. The same tip works in both: watch the next platform up, not the cat.

If you like one, the other will not teach you anything new, but both are here if you want to chase a separate high score in each. The paper-cut version of Paws Up has the slightly cuter look.

Stealth and chaos: naughty cat games

Cat Escape

A curious cat has wandered into the wrong house and has to reach the exit without being spotted by the guards patrolling each room. You steer by dragging the mouse or your finger. Get seen and the level restarts, so patience beats speed: watch one full patrol loop, then slip behind the furniture the moment a guard turns away. It has a colorful cartoon 3D style and nothing scary in it.

Cat Chaos Simulator

Here you do the opposite of hiding. You roam a house and a park, climb onto tables and shelves and knock over every cup and book in reach. Each fallen object adds to your chaos score. Click to steer, drag to turn the camera, or do the same with a finger on a phone. The best points come from high shelves, because falling things take down whatever sits below them. Anyone who has watched a cat push a glass off a table will get the idea instantly.

Care and cafes: calm cat games

Kitty Kate Caring Game

You run a cat's day in the right order: bathe her when she is dirty, dry her with a towel, brush her fur, fill the food bowl and refresh the water. You pick an item from the bottom bar and drag it onto the cat. Her face tells you whether you chose well; with the wrong item, the routine does not move on. Once the care steps are done, a menu of collars, bows and outfits opens. No timer, which makes Kitty Kate a relaxed pick for young kids, and it plays fully by touch.

Lovely Virtual Cat At Restaurant

The cat's restaurant is always full. You tap a customer's speech bubble to take the order, follow the recipe steps in the kitchen and carry the plate to the right table. Orders are shown as food pictures, so no reading is needed. When the tables are quiet you can decorate or feed the lobster tank. When two orders arrive together, finish the shorter recipe first. The cat cafe game is where cooking fans and cat fans meet.

My Cat Town

The calmest game on the list. In a town full of cats you visit places like the train station, the cat house and the flower garden, and build your own scene by tapping objects and cats. No winning, no losing, no clock; each place is a little toy box. Tap the small things in the background too, since many have hidden animations. If you play with a young child, making up a story in each room stretches the fun a long way.

Fishing, rescue and defense

MiniCat Fisher

This cat goes fishing with a harpoon. Aim at a fish and let go; when the line pulls tight, reel at the right moment or the fish slips away. Every catch earns coins, and coins buy a longer harpoon so you can reach the bigger fish deeper down. It plays with a left click or a tap. Saving for the next harpoon usually pays more than spending right away.

Save the Kitten

A grumpy cat has carried the kittens up his tower, and you wait below with a trampoline. Catch each falling kitten and bounce it into the mother cat's basket; miss and you lose a life. Gold buys a wider trampoline and faster shoes. One catch: it is played with the arrow keys, so it is hard on a phone. At a computer, though, it is one of the liveliest games here. In Save the Kitten, the kitten's shadow shows where it will land.

CatRobot Idle TD Battle Cat

Warrior cats guard your tower and fire arrows at waves of creatures. You aim and release with a single touch; after each wave you spend coins on damage, fire rate and health. Tougher bosses show up at the end of levels. Lesson one: aim where the enemy is going, not where it stands. For the logic of the genre as a whole, our guide on how to play tower defense explains placement and upgrade order.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play these cat games on my phone?

Nine out of ten, yes. Save the Kitten uses the arrow keys, so open that one on a computer. The others all offer touch controls.

Which ones suit young kids?

My Cat Town, Kitty Kate and the cat restaurant game move at a gentle pace with no timer. In the restaurant, orders appear as pictures, so a child who cannot read yet can still follow along.

Is my progress saved?

According to the game pages, progress in most of these lasts for the session and may reset when you close the tab. Planning a long session? Keep the tab open.

What is the difference between the two Paws Up entries?

They share the same idea: jump onto sliding platforms at the right moment and land in the middle for a bonus. Try both if you like; each keeps its own score.
